Captain Gus's Steak Shop

Place is still legendary. While the good ole captain has passed his son Nick has def kept the place going. Just got my first captain Gus cheesesteak in 25 years!!! Still the same amazing food.

First, the staff is incredibly friendly and nice. I had to go in and pay for seven different orders separately and they didn’t even bat an eye. The food was also ready in the exact time they said it would be. The cheesesteak is one of the best I’ve had in Lancaster, and I’m not even a marinara on a cheesesteak kind of guy. The meat was super flavorful and it had plenty of cheese. So many places really lack in the cheese department, but not Gus’s. The fries were a bit soggy, but let’s face it, I wasn’t there for the fries. Overall, this place is better than half the “talked about” places in Philly.

Classic little shop been there for ages. I remember coming as a child and having gone in there, it's nostalgic. Inflation makes it hard, but the staff is very cool and professional.

I Went here probably over 20 years ago with my Pop Pop. Met Captain Gus himself and he was entertaining us with Magic Tricks if I remember correctly. I went again today and met the cook named Don. I hope I remembered his name correctly because I had a great conversation with him. The quality and taste of the food is an added bonus to the great experiences that I have had here.

Captain Gus’s is a breath of fresh air in a fast casual dining scene stuffed to the brim with unremarkable chain restaurants. My cheesesteak was easily the best I’ve had since moving to Lancaster 10 years ago and the staff was friendly and nice. Much like Route 66 Restaurant on the other side of town, the rundown interior may deter the uninitiated but it’s their loss.

Cheese steak flavor was dominated buy Black pepper. other than that, it was a Very Good steak sandwich!
